January Detox

What is a body detox?

Detox is a popular ‘buzzword’, and in January, has to be the most common use of it throughout the year.

This is because, detox means detoxification, it implies to follow a specific diet or use special products that claim to rid your body of toxins, which then improves health and promoting weight loss from the over indulging of celebrations from December and New Year.

Whilst our bodies are generally fully equipped to detoxify by itself, there are options to assist with this movement quicker.

Our bodies have a sophisticated way of eliminating toxins that involves the liver, kidneys, digestive system, skin, and lungs.

Still, only when these organs are healthy can they effectively eliminate unwanted substances.

Which explains why our No.1 detox assistance option is lymphatic drainage massage

Why? Whilst all the supplements, diets and fads have a way of affecting the body in a positive way, if the body’s function is not at its optimal, something we see on a daily basis in our clinic, no matter what we are putting into our bodies, it simply will not make our bodies function to benefit from them.

The lymphatic drainage is using hands to manually navigate the excessive liquid to the lymph nodes, so it can be filtered either the healthy into the blood stream, or unhealthy out of the body via urine and sweat.

Results are immediate and clears the pathway for your body to then continue to eliminate further toxins for a period of time.

Leaving the body lighter & healthier and feeling our best selves.

Additional ways to help detoxify, but should not replace a Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage, but assist it, are:

  1. Limit alcohol

Drinking can damage your liver function by causing fat build up and inflammation. When this happens, your liver cannot function adequately and perform it’s necessary functions, including filtering waste and other toxins from your body.

  1. Sleep

Sleeping allows your brain to reorganise and recharge itself, as well as remove toxic waste.

  1. Drinking water

Water helps to move and flush toxins from the body. By drinking more, your body will collect all the toxins with the flush and clear out through the urine and sweat, without water, the movement slows down. This is very important for detoxification.

  1. Reduce intake of sugar and processed foods

Research shows that high levels of sugar leads to diabetes, and processed foods have high levels of sugars. Putting a lot of pressure on the liver, which then slows down its ability to function adequately.

  1. Reduce salt intake

Consuming too much salt can cause your body to retain excess fluid, especially if you do not drink enough water.

This excess fluid buildup can cause bloating and make clothing uncomfortable. If you consume too much salt, you can detox yourself of the extra water weight by reducing the salt intake.

Increasing your water intake is one of the best ways to eliminate excess water weight from consuming too much salt

That’s because when you consume too much salt and not enough water, your body releases an antidiuretic hormone that prevents you from urinating and therefore, detoxifying.

  1. Being active

By staying active, the blood is flowing more around the body and moving everything along, and helping to reduce inflammation.
